Outstanding Care

Dear Dr Brown.

Our apologies for the delay in reaching out to you. We wanted to send our sincere thanks for the outstanding care that you have provided for our son Jason. Finally, after several years of pain and multiple misdiagnosis you have given him his life back. We speak with him often and he is sounding better every day. We can never thank you enough.

In gratitude,

Ecuador Humanitarian Mission

Young Girl after appendectomy with her bunny “Luna”

I feel blessed and have long wanted to give back to those in need. My daughter had been on 4 other humanitarian missions in Haiti, Uganda, Honduras and India. She finally talked me into joining her. In July, my daughter (an ER nurse at Stanford University Hospital) and I went to Chone, Ecuador to serve on a humanitarian mission at The General Hospital. In 2016, the original hospital collapsed during a devastating earthquake and now the people of Chone are served in tents and mobile buildings. Patients often wait 6 months to see a surgeon and another 6 months to have their operation. When we arrived, patients were already waiting under a tarp outside to see us. My office was a tent, luckily with air conditioning! The operating room was better than I expected and was located in one of the portable…

Does Marijuana Help Surgery Recovery?

Marijuana is now legal in many states and it is important to understand the effects on the human body. Marijuana has two active molecules: Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). But most patients find that combining CBD and THC yields the best result.

Forms of Marijuana

Some Marijuana products are CBD dominant (the product contains more CBD than THC), and some Marijuana products are THC dominant (the product contains more THC than CBD).…

Can You Shower After Surgery?

You had your hernia repaired and you are on your way home from the surgery center. You are hot and sweaty from the car ride. Your skin is itchy from the betadine skin prep, and you are starting to smell. You have a box of baby wet wipes, but you really want a shower. Is it safe to get naked and jump in the shower?

After your surgery, the body immediately starts the healing process. After 12 hours, the skin is healed enough to prevent bacteria from entering through the incision. So 12 hours after your hernia repair feel free to take off the gauze and the tape and take a shower. Soap will not hurt the incision.

Afterward, you can leave the incision open to the air. If there is some drainage, put a fresh bandage on overnight.

Only one person in the shower with you until you feel…
